Residents of the Smyth County community of Atkins have spent another night away from home.
A fire at a plastics warehouse on Wednesday forced their evacuation.
The effort to put the fire out continued overnight.

Firefighters poured tons of foam on the fire creating a sealant over the blaze.
Earlier last night the fire raged at temperatures officials estimated at two-thousand degrees.
In all about 500 people were evacuated and there's word that they might be able to return to their homes sometime later this morning.

State Police have spent two days digging in a trash pit behind the Pulaski Correctional Unit.
News 7 has learned the operation is connected to the search for Carol Smith--the wife of prison warden David Smith.
Carol Smith was reported missing three years ago.

Virginia Military Institute staffers plan a media briefing this morning to report on the status of the freshman class.
But one of the first female cadets has decided the military way of life is not for her.

That's a total of 13 men and one woman- below the expected average for the first week.
The Institute expects some of the new recruits to quit- especially the day after they "meet the cadre."

It's possible -- but unlikely -- that a federal appeals court in D.C. could still dampen Virginia Beach's fun.

At the start of the 1998 school year Virginia Tech will require all incoming students to own a personal computer.
This makes Tech the first public university in Virginia to require computers.
Virginia Tech President Paul Torgersen said it's essential that every graduate be computer literate.
Officials at the Blacksburg school estimate that 70 percent of undergraduates already arrive with computers.

The University of Virginia is America's best public national university.
That's the ranking in the latest issue of U-S News and World Report.
The magazine listed the College of William and Mary as sixth.
No other Virginia college made the magazine's list of top 25 public national universities.
In the magazine's overall rankings of education quality that also included private universities, U-V-A ranked 21st and William and Mary ranked 32nd.
