The historic Hotel Botetourt is in ruins and a 30-year-old resident of the home is charged with arson.
Duane Bowman is in custody for allegedly starting the fire.
The Buchanan landmark served as a home for mentally handicapped adults.

Buchanan residents say confederate generals used the 146 year old building as a rest stop but for nearly 15 years it was more of a rest-HOME for about 30 mentally handicapped adults.

Virginia's Crime Commission is crafting a version of ``Megan's Law'' -- a proposal to let people know when a convicted sex offender has been released into their community.
A task force of the commission tentatively approved a system yesterday.
The Virginia system would rate the risk assigned to a sex offender based on criminal history and other factors.

Right now it has about 140 employees in Clifton Forge.

Officials took people on tours yesterday of the state's newest maximum security prison.

The contractor held what's called a "topping out" ceremony.
That marks the completion of work on the highest point of the building.
The 72 million dollar prison is bringing an estimated 500 jobs so far to Southwest Virginia.

Hatewatch is a project of a non-profit group trying to educate people about the existance of hate groups on-line.
The site keeps an updated list of sites allegedly operated by hate groups.
According to the Anti-Defamation League, hate sites on the web are sophisticated and deceptive.
It is warning parents that children searching for information about the holocaust, race, or religion could inadvertently end up on one of these sites.
