A Danville mother and daughter were seriously injured during a fire at their
home.

Inspector Ronnie Harvey says he thinks the 12- year- old girl had a can of
gas in her hand when the fire started in the kitchen.
Second and third degree burns cover most of the girl's body.
She is reportedly being flown to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
Her mother, Mary Stewart, suffered smoke inhalation and burns on her hands.
Flames damaged the rear of the house and firefighters are still trying to
confirm the cause of the blaze.

But now a group of business leaders is warning politicians it may be time
to raise taxes to repair Virginia's schools and roads.
The more than 100 executives -- including well-connected Republicans and
Democrats -- plan to use their clout and wealth to accomplish what they say
politicians can't or won't.

They're upset the governor's race between Democrat Don Beyer and Republican
Jim Gilmore has become an advertising war over whose tax cut is better.
Both Beyer and Gilmore have proposed ways of reducing the burden of the

is hopping mad at Republican candidate for governoer Jim Gilmore.
A couple of days ago, Gilmore's campaign leaked a memo saying Gilmore
would replace Dunlop if he's elected governor.
Now Dunlop is accusing Gilmore of trying to advance his campaign by attacking
her integrity.
Governor George Allen appointed Dunlop and still stands behind her.
Environmentalists have been highly critical of Dunlop for what they
consider lax enforcement of pollution regulations

A 12- year- old boy was killed and other teens were injured in a car
accident early yesterday on the Blue Ridge Parkway.
Authorities say the single car accident happened at 3- 45 Sunday morning, 13
miles south of Rock Fish Gap in Nelson County.
A 16- year- old was driving, with four passengers, aged 12 to 15.
They were taken to area hospitals-- two of them were flown to the U-V-A
Medical Center.
No word yet on their conditions.
They're names are NOT being released at this time.
The accident is still under investigation.
