and in life, tracked by cameras, and an adoring public.

She had escaped an unhappy marriage, found a new role championing land mine
victims. And it looked like she'd found a little romance with Egyptian
playboy movie producer Dodi Fayed. But her family says the media's pursuit of
the STORY of her new happiness, snuffed it out.
Seven photographers are being questioned by police in Paris. They chased
Diana and companion Dodi's car on motorbikes, down a Paris tunnel, to get a
shot of the couple after a romantic dinner. The car swerved, hit one wall,
then the other, and crumpled. Fayed and his driver were killed instantly.
Diana was pried from the car, but died from cardiac arrest at a Paris
hospital.
Her two sons Princes William and Harry, were on vacation at Balmoral castle in
Scotland when their father broke the news. They joined Charles, the Queen and
Prince Philip for a church service Sunday morning, as the nation woke to the
tragedy.

Three women and two children were travelling southbound on the Chesapeake
Bay Bridge-Tunnel but couldn't make it around a car they were trying to pass.
Police say the driver then clipped another car while returning to her lane,
crashed into a guardrail and flipped over the edge of the bridge.
The victims were travelling from New Jersey to Virginia Beach.
A spokeswoman says it's the first time a car has gone off the bridge-tunnel
since it opened in 1964.

Mountain Dew Southern 500 and Claimed the Winston Million and he also moved

Dale Earnhardt had trouble on the very first lap he hit the wall coming off
the first corner he made it back to the pits.
After complaining about seeing double Earnhardt was taken from his car to
the infield care center. He was later taken to a local hospital. Earnhardt was
stable and a cat Scan was negative.
South Boston's Jeff Burton was having another strong run lead the race
after about 60 laps of the event.
Gordon chasing the Winston Miller overcame some handling problems to lead
the race with about 285 laps left to go.
Then on lap 135 Robby Gordon drifts up the track and hits Mike Skinner
turning him to the inside of the track where he hit the wall bringing out the
caution.
Bill Elliott was running strong and Million Dollar Bill was leading the
race at the halfway mark.
Mark Martin, The Winston Cup Points leader, passes Terry Labonte to take
over the sixth position with 121 laps to go.
Gordon was the leader with 52 laps to go and after he and Burton touch on

Well, it's mostly quiet on the roads this weekend-- as many highway work
crews get the holiday weekend off.

This was the scene along route 460 in Bedford County and it reflects the
situation along most highways in Virginia.
V-DOT says it's suspending most construction and is opening-up some lane
closures where ever possible to allow for the extra holiday traffic.

But, making it to the major highways could be a problem depending on where
you live.
The Shaffers Crossing underpass is still under construction, but it's one of
the few sites where work is continuing through the holiday weekend.
There's no detour set up here, so you need to find alternate routes such as
Shenandoah Avenue.

Elsewhere, if you're going out of town you're in luck if you're headed to
and from the North Carolina Beaches.
Traffic along I-95 is reportedly heavy but there are no major back-ups
reported.

But, it's a different story if you're headed north to the nation's capital.
Delays begin along route 66 in Northern Virginia and get worse as you get
closer to the beltway.

Most construction in Tennessee is suspended, but be on the lookout along
Interstate 24 for occassional lane closures due to resurfacing.))
