A Roanoke man is missing and is believed to have drowned in Carvins Cove
Rescue workers from six different agencies spent the day looking for
53-year-old Cecil Donald Short.
The Virginia Game Department was notified around 10 this morning that an
un-manned boat was floating on Carvins Cove.
Short's boat was found with all of his fishing gear aboard, but Short was no
where in site.

A substantial number of Cave Spring students began the school year with an
incorrect class assignment, or an extra study hall, for example.

Normally a few dozen students have problems like these, but this year it was
bad enough for the principal to mail an apology to parents.

Roanoke County Schools Superintendent Deanna Gordon explains that in all,
close to 100 Cave Spring students ran into problems because a computerized
scheduling program crashed and wasn't totally backed up.
She says a team assembled by the school has burned the midnight oil, even on
weekends, to iron this out.

Gordon believes the team has eliminated most of the bugs in the system, but
there still are doubts about how smoothly things will go this week.

Three people died in accidents around the region.
Twenty-six year old Desmond Renee Tyler of Gretna died after plowing into a
tractor trailer head-on along Route 40.
And 72 year old Emily Diorio of Roanoke and Carol Reulein of Washington died
after crashing head on into a pick-up truck along route 11 in Rockbridge
The people of India are making their final tributes to Mother Theresa.
Her body was moved to St. Thomas Church, where a line of mourners stretched
a half mile along the pavement outside.

Meanwhile, British Prime Minister Tony Blair defended the royal family
today, criticized for its late reaction to Diana's death.
Blair says the monarchy is adapting to change.

That's why members of both Roanoke City and County Parks and Recreation
Department have made this trip to Blacksburg.
The town has a skateboarding facility. So the parks and recreation

A few new problems on major roads in Roanoke and Bedford County that may
slow you down tomorrow as you begin your work week.
For more on where you can expect some delays and what roads to avoid here's

Hershberger Road ramp onto 581 in Roanoke.
So, if you take that exit there's no need to leave early or make that U-turn
onto the southbound ramp anymore.

Work to widen Route 613 and fix underground drainage pipes along Route 907
The construction is slated to continue until September 10th, but until then
Route 907 or Ranchcrest Drive will be shut down to through traffic.

The first test flight of the F-22 advanced stealth fighter was a success
After more than three months of delay the stealth fighter took an hour long
flight in Georgia.
The "rapture" as it is being called will replace aging F-15's.
The new plane is faster, needs less support by other aircraft and has a
computerized cockpit to improve pilot's reactions in combat.
The stealth fighter will need more practice runs before it is actually ready
More than four hundred of the jets are expected to be built by 2010.
And if all goes as planned the first F-22 stealth is expected to be ready
for combat in 2004.
