She's suspended for two semesters for striking an upperclassmen.
The incident happened during normal rat-line drills.
VMI spokesman Mike Strickler says violence is not tolerated at the school.

Divers are searching the water-
and helicopters are flying overhead off the coast of Haiti.

The search goes on for more than 100 people trapped on two decks of a sunken
Divers spotted the bodies today- indicating the ferry was not as
overcrowded as first reported.
Fifty people survived and so far 50 bodies have been recovered.
Search teams and family members are frustrated as they enter day four of the
search for a missing fisherman.
It's believed 53-year old Cecil Donald Short drowned in the reservoir at
Carvin's Cove while fishing Sunday morning.
Family members say Short had naval training and was an excellent swimmer.
They say he may have had a stroke and fallen into the water.
The Virginia Game Department says they'll exhaust all resources before
deciding when to call off the search.

Short's relatives say they'll keep vigil on the docks until they have some
information on what happened.
Frank Pennington will have to wait a while longer to try to clear his name.
He's getting a new trial for the murder of a Roanoke County woman.
But a judge today agreed to move the trial to next February.
A jury two years ago convicted Pennington of the murder of Bonnie Sue
Mullins was shot in the face at the front door of her home in the Mount
Pleasant section of the county.
Pennington won his appeal, and was set to be re-tried next week.
But his attorneys today got more time to test possible new evidence,
including a gun that's in the custody of the Franklin County sheriff.
Organizers of next month's Italian Festival in Lynchburg are breathing a
sigh of relief tonight, now that they'll be able to sell beer and wine at their

A teacher's aide is accused of having consensual sex with a 13-year old
student at Auburn High school in Riner.
25-year old John Breedlove of Roanoke was arraigned in Montgomery County
General District Court today.
Sheriff's officials say the incident happened at the school last week while
Breedlove was working.
If convicted-- Breedlove faces up to 10 years in prison.

Off the field yesterday, the Phillies were saddened by the death of
legendary player and broadcaster Richie Ashburn.
The Hall of Fame centerfielder played for the Phillies from 1948 to
1959. He was a broadcaster for the team for the last 35 years.
Ashburn is also a two-time batting champion and for his career he hit .308 in
15 big-league seasons.
He is still considered one of the best lead-off hitters of all-time.
Richie Ashburn was 70.
The Hockey Hall of Fame is adding three new members, including one who is
barely into retirement.
Today in Toronto, Mario Lemieux, Brian Trottier, and Glen Sather were elected
to the hall. They will be inducted on November 17th.
Trottier doesn't have the name like Lemieux, but he does have six Stanley Cup
titles with the Pens and Islanders.
