Homeowners should not try to inspect the system....it's too dangerous to move appliances.
Call the gas company or a plumber.
If the connector can be seen without moving the appliance....you can tell it should be replaced if it is the yellow color of brass.
The new, safe connectors are either gray or silver-colored stainless steel.
