VMI says the incident occurred under normal ratline procedures-- after class
VMI Superintendent Josiah Bunting says the decision to suspend the woman
was recommended by the Executive Committee of the Corps of Cadets.
The female cadet was suspended for two semesters...it is unknown whether she
will return to the Lexington post.
VMI says the purpose of the ratline is to teach self-control and restraint.

The name of the cadet who struck the upperclassman has not been released.
Colonel Strickler wouldn't confirm or deny if it was the same woman who
complained recently that she was singled out.
So far 32-men and four women in the first co-ed freshman Rat LIne have
left VMI since August 18th.
The driver of the car that crashed, killing Princess Diana may have had
anti-depressants in his blood.
Europe-One radio reports investigators found traces of the drug.
But that report has not been immediately confirmed.
Earlier today, officials reported a THIRD blood test showed that driver
Henri Paul was legally drunk at the time of the crash.
Also today French police closed off the tunnel for 45 minutes while
investigators visited the scene.
They gathered around the 13th pillar where the accident happened- to try and
find more possible answers.
The ferry that sank off the coast of Haiti yesterday may not have been as
crowded as originally thought.

There had been reports that up to 800 people were aboard-
but so far divers have spotted between 100 and 115 bodies, all trapped on
the ferry's two lower decks.
Fifty people survived- swimming to shore.
About 50 bodies have been recovered.

Search teams continued treading through the reservoir at Carvin's Cove for a
missing fisherman- as the third day of looking winds down.
53-year old Cecil Donald Short disappeared sometime Sunday morning while
Three dogs helped rescue workers probe the dam area, where a pack of
cigarettes was found yesterday floating in the water.
Today, more crews aided the investigation.

Family members say Short was a good swimmer and believe if he did not have a
life vest, he COULD survive.
Relatives say he may have suffered a heart attack or stroke-- and was
unconscious when he fell into the water.

A federal judge is allowing two lawyers for Paula Jones to withdraw from
her sexual harassment suit against President Bill Clinton.
Failed Virginia Attorney General candidate Gil Davis and Joseph Cammarata
filed papers yesterday that they have "fundamental differences of opinion" with
their client about how the case should proceed.
Sources say the attorneys supported a settlement plan that Jones rejected.
The judge in Little Rock, Arkansas, is insisting that the case stay on
course for a trial next May.
The Giles County Board of Supervisors is fighting a plan that would relocate
a portion of the Appalachian Trail.

Angels Rest and Peters Mountain.
A large stretch of the trail that would be rerouted is near the Clendennin

The ring Dodi Al Fayued reportedly gave to Princess Diana the night they
died is sparking curiosity-
Many want to know if it was given to Diana as an engagement ring?
The jeweler who designed the ring says he doesn't know-
But he says the ring was part of a line of engagment jewelry named "Tell Me
Yes" in French.
According to the London Times the jeweler says Diana picked the ring out at
his Monte Carlo store.
