A Danville judge has changed his mind -- and it could spare the life of a Danville killer.
Judge James Ingram says he sentenced William Ira Saunders to death in 1990 based on Saunders' violent behavior in jail AFTER his conviction.
Now Ingram and Danville prosecutor Bill Fuller have asked Governor George Allen-- and the Governor's agreed -- to offer Saunders life in prison instead of death.
Saunders shot Mervin Gwill in the back of the head and robbed him during an alleged drug deal in Danville in 1989.
Prosecutor Bill Fuller says several of the state's witnesses have since racked up lengthy criminal records that would make them unreliable witnesses on appeal.

38 concession stands and 2 formal restaurants serve everything from pizza to steak to crab cakes, but nothing's free - one beer costs $5 bucks.
Of course money is no object for many folks, like the ones who inhabit the 208 luxury suites.
Each suite has leather couches, chairs, TVs, refrigerators, and a mahogany sink and bar area.
It's one of the best seats in the house, but it will cost you as much as $160 thousand a season to own one.
There are cheaper seats but you still better bring your ATM card. It will cost a family four over $200 bucks just to get in the gate. ((MIKE STEVENS:)) ((PETE HAISLIP/SKINS FAN FROM SALEM:)) ...In raljon, Maryland - Mike Stevens News 7 sports.))

The students who made the most money for the Leukemia Society of America got the pleasure of shaving the head of business teacher Troy Smith.
The entire school raised more than 15-hundred dollars in its fundraiser-- surpassing the initial goal of 948-dollars.
