A convicted killer could get a second chance at life in Danville.
Judge James Ingram says he sentenced William Ira Saunders to death in 19-90
based on Saunders' violent behavior in jail AFTER his conviction.
Now Ingram and Danville prosecutor Bill Fuller have asked Governor George
Allen-- and the Governor's agreed -- to offer Saunders life in prison instead
of death.
Saunders shot Mervin Gwill in the back of the head and robbed him during an
alleged drug deal in Danville in 19-89.
Prosecutor Bill Fuller says several of the state's witnesses have since
racked up lengthy criminal records that would make them unreliable witnesses on
appeal.
