French investigators may finally get some more information on what really
caused the car crash that killed
Princess Diana, her boyfriend Dodi Fayed and their chauffeur.
Bodyguard Trevor Rees-Jones, the lone survivor of the deadly collision, is
conscious, and doctors say he can talk.
Doctors at a Paris hospital say Rees-Jones is off artificial respiration and
CAN communicate well.
Rees is considered vital to the investigation into what caused the August
Lynchburg's largest employer has announced it is restructuring, leaving
about 275 people without a job.
Ericsson Incorporated says a decline in the market for private radio systems
has forced it to restructure that division.
Officials say 145 full- time salaried employees will be affected.. but it
expects 70 percent of them will find jobs elsewhere in the company.

One body has been found and 25 people are feared trapped in the debris of a
building collapse in Bombay,
Fire officials say one side of the ten- story building caved in.
The building is part of a relatively new complex in an upscale neighborhood
of the city.
Bombay is emerging from a real estate boom during which developers put up
buildings quickly without much thought about safety or durability.
Less than a week before his trial is set to begin Sportscaster Marv Albert
made an attempt today to get his case dismissed.
Albert is charged with forcing a woman to perform oral sex on him in an
Arlington hotel in February.
His attorney today argued in court records that the indictment against
Albert is flawed because prosecutors failed to allege that he sexually
penetrated his accuser.
A man sentenced to death for killing a man in an alleged drug deal in
Danville could have his life spared.
Judge James Ingram says he sentenced William Ira Saunders to death in 19-90
based on Saunders' violent behavior in jail AFTER his conviction.
After being asked by Ingram and Danville prosecutor Bill Fuller- Governor
George Allen will offer Saunders life in prison instead of death.
Saunders shot Mervin Gwill in the back of the head and robbed him during an
alleged drug deal in Danville in 19-89.
If Saunders gives up his appeals, he gets life in prison WITHOUT parole.
Virginia Military Institute's NEXT rat class may have a higher percentage of
women and higher S-A-T scores.
Four weeks after the first females arrived on post, V-M-I reports more than
three-thousand high school girls have already inquired about the class of 2002.
Nearly NINE thousand BOYS have contacted the school.
The report submitted to a federal judge also says S-A-T scores for the next
rat class are higher than the current freshman class... by 14 percent- -at

The latest spending reports show Jim Gilmore had outspent Don Beyer by a
MILLION dollars by Labor Day.
But according to the latest NEWS7/Mason-Dixon poll, that hasn't made much of
Democrat Don Beyer pulls 43- percent support among likely voters.
Republican Jim Gilmore has 44- percent.

More than 80 Danville firefighters are taking the city to court.
The lawsuit alleges firefighters must work during their meal hours, even

A big dessert is putting one village in northwest Italy on the map.
Bakers there made the world's longest apple strudel, measuring just less
than a mile long.
It tooks two tons of apples, twelve-hundred pounds of flour and several
hundred pounds of sugar.
Ten cooks and a hundred volunteers took a few days to create this strudel,
but bystanders consumed it in a matter of minutes.
