After weeks of review, President Clinton today outlined the changes he wants
to see before he endorses the landmark multi-billion dollar tobacco settlement.
Mr. Clinton says he will NOT endorse the proposed agreement until Congress
imposes tougher legislation.
The President is calling for a boost in cigarette prices of up to a dollar
and half a pack, and a crack down on teen smoking.

A draft version of the treaty was approved this morning by delegates to an

A U-N spokesman today said among the dead is a top German diplomat.
One American may also have been killed.
At least four people were injured.
The helicopter was headed to peace negotiations in a town near Sarajevo when

crash that killed Princess Diana.
Sources say a tail light and traces of paint from a vehicle other than
Diana's Mercedes were found at the scene.
One source says scientists have determined the tail light is
part of a Fiat.

Today's turnout was a big jump since last year, when no one showed up.
The company that will NOT be building a military style boot camp for
juvenile offenders in Floyd County is eyeing a new location.

camp in Willis.
But the Board of Supervisors pulled its support for the project after
hearing complaints from local residents.
Rebound agreed to search elsewhere.

Republican Jim Gilmore wants to make it harder for minors to get abortions.
The General Assembly already passed parental notification, but now Gilmore
wants parental consent.
That's where pregnant teens would have to NOT only notify -- but get their
parents' permission to get an abortion.
It's the first specific Gilmore's released on his abortion stance in the
campaign for governor.

of rape or incest -- unless the life of the mother is in danger.
Town officials are still hoping to get a stamp of approval from post office
representatives that a historic landmark will be saved.

The G-E plant in Salem has yet to decide how many laid off workers it will
recall next month.
It all depends on the workload at the plant, which makes control panel
systems for a variety of industrial uses.
Of the 160 hourly people laid off in July, 52 have returned.
Some of those still unemployed say G-E led them to believe EVERYONE would be

Heather Sue Mercer claims she did not get a fair chance to make the football
