Movie Review
"In and Out" is a problematic comedy about the outing of a gay teacher. It
takes a serious subject and makes a farce filled with gay cliches and
silliness.
Kevin Kline plays Howard Brackett, a well loved english teacher and coach
who is labeled as gay by a former student (Matt Dillon) when he thanks Howard
in his Oscar acceptance speech. Joan Cusack is wonderful as Howard's
flabbergasted fiance, Debbie Reynolds has a grand time as Howard's wedding
obsessed mother and Tom Selleck plays a gay television reporter who follows
Howard around to get his story.
(Dialog w/Tom Selleck goes here)
"In and Out" gets a B. It has some delightful moments but there is so much
more that could have been done with the concept.
