Luke Woodham is accused of stabbing his mother to death yesterday before
Police say the 10th grader then went to the Pearl Mississippi high school
and opened fire- killing his girffriend and another female student- and
wounding 7 others.
Woodham wore a bulletproof
vest- and made no comment today.
Investigators have said the killing spree stemmed from a problem Woodham was
having with his girlfriend.

The director of Danville's only homeless shelter has been forced to turn
away as many as 50 people in the two weeks since the city shut it down.
A church has operated the homeless shelter for three years now.
Recently the city cracked down -- declaring the building a motel and
demanding new fire alarms, emergency lighting, and exit signs.

Hill hopes to re-open the shelter this weekend--he's says it's ready, with

There is a way for breast cancer patients to boost their long term
Today's New England Journal of Medicine reports on two studies.
They found women given a combination of three treatments -- surgery,
chemotherapy and radiation -- had the best chance of being alive and
cancer-free, ten years later.
The radiation improved the outcome -- even when the breast cancer has
spread to lymph nodes.
And adding radiation to chemotherapy and surgery was especially beneficial
for younger women.
America's food safety system is the strongest in the world-- and that's how
it's going to stay, according to President Clinton.
Today he proposed legislation banning produce imports from countries that
don't meet U-S safety standards.
Next year, he'll ask Congress for funds to hire inspectors, to examine
produce safety abroad.

The maker of CPR Prompt says it hopes to have a better retention rate than
some CPR classes.
Experts say three months after students take the class, they only retain
30-percent of what they've learned.
The Clifton Forge-Covington area is one of six Virginia localities which
will share a two-million dollar federal grant.
The money is intended to help reduce rates of infant mortality, teen
pregnancy and low birth-weight babies.
The communities chosen all have high rates of teen pregnancy, often a
factor in the health of the child.

For years it's graced the lawn of the old Jones Memorial Library in
Lynchburg, but now a statue of a Confederate soldier is being given a new home.
The statue is of the library's namesake, George Morgan Jones, who fought for
the South in the Civil War.
Recently, the Fincastle camp of the Sons of Confederate Veterans bought the
piece for 15- thousand dollars.
They intend to have it moved to the Hanging Rock battlefield in Roanoke
