Good Evening I'm Jean Jadhon
It is good news for the more than 900 workers at Salem's Yokohama plant.
Governor Allen has announced the tire factory has a new 28- million dollar
deal to make high performance radial tires.
The expansion will allow the company to manufacture tires for cars and
The production line is expected to be installed next July, and completed in
The deal also means Salem will get a new Yokohama distribution center, and
an unspecified number of new jobs.
This summer Yokohama came to terms on a six year labor deal with the union
representing the Salem workers.
Lynchburg fire officials say an electrical short sparked a blaze that
heavily damaged a trailer home this morning.
Crews were called to lot-209 at the Terry Court trailer park around 10:30.
They were able to quickly bring the blaze under control, but not before much
of the interior was gutted.
Firefighters credit a neighbor with a garden hose for keeping the fire
contained until crews arrived.
Authorities say the cord to a curling iron short circuited and caught a
chair on fire.
The family renting the trailer was not home when the fire broke out.
President Clinton went in for his annual exam today- and came out with orders
for two hearing aids.
Doctors fitted the President for two devices to alleviate a longtime
problem with high frequency hearing loss.
