It has all the elements of good political theater -- but only the actors know what's in the script.

Keith, sometimes in political coverage it's NOT just the candidate's answer that's important.
It's also the question -- and whether the answer really answered it.
This is really the first public forum where a sharp-tongued former governor and two non-partisan political analysts get to phrase questions to this pair that don't encourage the feel-good soundbite answer.
UVA professor Larry Sabato is on tonight's panel.

So keep your eye on Beyer. Q&A: And Doug Wilder has not endorsed a candidate in this race?
That's right Keith.
Wilder says he won't endorse anyone this week -- but Don Beyer's by NO means ensured of help from his somewhat critical former running mate.

Gilmore actually met with Wilder and made the case for cross-party-lines endorsement.
The only signal Wilder's given is an op-ed piece in the Richmond Times-Dispatch over the weekend where he writes that African Americans should look "with a jaundiced eye" at those who seek to completely dismantle affirmative action on college campuses.
That COULD be aimed at Jim Gilmore tonight. ***Take Pinnacle Page888
