a drinking party in Grayson County.
That was just some of the evidence revealed duing today's hearing for the two
men charged with Johnson's murder.

prosecutor, and dismissing Don Beyer's claim that Gilmore went easy on child

Today, local Republican prosecutors joined Gilmore in Roanoke. And they
dismissed Beyer's criticism as unfair and inaccurate.

Two teenagers charged with murder in Appomattox County were indicted by a
grand jury there today.
18- year- olds Brandon Wayne Hedrick and Trevor Andrew Jones are accused of
abducting, robbing and shooting Lisa Yvonne Crider to death in May.
Police say Hedrick confessed to shooting Crider in the head after she
reportedly stole drugs from him.
He's charged with murder in commission of a robbery, abduction and the use
of a firearm in commission of a felony.
Hedrick's trial is scheduled for the week of January 5th.. Jones will stand
trial in February.
The Town of Rocky Mount is operating without a manager today after Mark Henne
The official resignation follows a closed door meeting last night with Mayor
Broaddus Shivley and Vice Mayor Posey Dillon.
Henne could not be reached for comment, but the mayor's office did issue a
Council and Mayor Shivley announced the matter will be addressed Monday at
the regular meeting.
Shively says the town appreciates Henne's past service to the town.
Henne would have been town manager eight years next month.

Bagpipes were incorporated into the regimental band last Spring... by the
direction of Superintendent Josiah Bunting.
The idea was well received by a corps replete with Scottish heritage.

The contest for the 22nd District House of Delegates seat has been
relatively tame so far, and at least one candidate wants to keep it that way.
Republican Kathy Byron today pledged she will wage a "clean, positive"
campaign and called on her opponent to do the same.
Byron concedes that Democrat Kaye Lipscomb has done nothing wrong, but says
during the final weeks before Election Day, there's always pressure to "go

Yesterday marked the fourth anniversary of Michael Jordan's abrupt retirement
from the NBA.
He came back partly to play again with Scottie Pippen.
He'll now have to start this season without him.
Pippen underwent surgery on a bad left foot yesterday and the Bulls say he

Muggsy Bogues finally returned to the Charlotte Hornets today, but he did so

Earlier this summer you may remember a story we brought you concerning Dan
Phillips, a former University of South Carolina swimmer who took part in the
olympic trials in 1996, but eventually ended up here in the valley
as the head swimming coach at Olympic Park pool.
Phillips, who also served as an assistant coach with the Marlins swim team,
failed in his attempt to make the '96 olympic team.
But is dream of going for the gold is far from dead.
He has now been accepted into the resident program for at least a year in
United States swim team personnel believe Phillips has the potential to make
the olympic team in the year 2000, so he is now living in Colorado and training
with that goal in mind. If his times continue to improve he will continue
training there right up to the next Olympic games.
