One Alleghany County supervisor wants the temperature of the water in the Jackson River changed.
(----------------)
VO-NAT
SUPER=03-Alleghany Co.;

Nine years ago, the Army Corps of Engineers decided to lower the water temperature flowing out of the Gathright dam.
They said it would make the river a viable trout fishery--
It would also allow the water to accept more biological waste.
Which makes it cheaper for local business Westvaco to do business.
E.C. Dressler says the warm water should be brought back.
He says the cold water stifles tourism, because people can't swim in the river.
Dressler was successful in sparking public debate on the issue, but unsuccessful in getting the rest of the supervisors to vote on the issue.

Movie Review 10/10

U-Turn is a bizarre little movie that may not appeal to the average movie goer but will be great fun for a film criticism class to analyze. Oliver Stone uses many of the same film techniques he used in "Natural Born Killers", and this one is just as bloody.
Sean penn is on the run from some bad guys. He's no prince himself. He doesn't think anything could be worse then having his two fingers cut off by thugs, until he breaks down in the Arizona Backwater.
Thats when Darrell, played by Billy Bob Thornton, finds endless ways to keep his car hostage, a local nymphet (Clare Danes) with a psycho boyfriend puts the moves on him, and a local couple tries to hire him to kill each other.
Think "Twin Peaks" meets "Blood Simple" and you have "U-Turn". It gets a C+. Its interesting, ironic and at times symbolic but too bleak and violent to be appealing. cutopen

One of the new female rats at V-M-I and a male rat were caught kissing last month in one of the barracks.
The two were discovered under a desk in a dark room in late September.
The action has resulted in campus confinement for the two.
The two rats were also given additional marching duty as punishment.
It is the first known violation of the school's anti fraternization rules.
