One person was seriously injured in a single vehicle accident tonight.
The accident occured shortly before nine on Yellow Mountain Road in Roanoke
The driver lost control of his vehicle and drove over the embankment.
The car then became airborne and landed on Route 220 North.
Police have not released the driver's name, but his injuries appear to be

118 people are dead- after Hurricane Pauline churned up the Mexican coast.

ashore just south of Acapulco early this morning...sweeping away houses,
tourist spots, almost anything that stood in her way. Towering waves pounded
the shoreline, carving up world reknown beaches. Pauline s torrential rains
inundated the southwest Mexican coast. The deluge turned Acapulco streets in
to churning, muddy rivers, washing away houses, piling up cars like so much
junk. Dozens of people are reported dead or missing. Bodies littered the

Heavy rain is pounding down on parts of Texas.

Some vehicles were entirely submerged.
Police say most of the main thoroughfares are flooded.

A Martinsville man is behind bars accused of an early morning murder.
Police say 24-year old James Antonio Hodge shot and killed Elmer Ray Hagwood
shortly after midnight.
22-year old Hagwood was found dead on a street in Bassett.
Hodge is also charged with shooting 37-year old Harold Taylor in the arm.
He says he's NOT a "pimp," but the judge sent William H. Smith, the Second,
to jail this afternoon for "procuring."
Smith worked at Shooters-44, a Williamson Road lingerie shop with LIVE
One night in April, a pair of undercover detectives got Smith to set up a
meeting with two of the models at a nearby motel.
It was going to cost them 325 dollars for an hour with the women.

A coalition of community groups is challenging First Union's plan to
acquire Signet Bank.
Today in Roanoke, the group said First Union has failed to meet its
obligations to low income and minority consumers.
The Roanoke Community Reinvestment Coalition includes members of the

The second annual Italian Festival got underway earlier tonight along
Hundreds of people turned out for the first night of the four- day event.
It features carnival rides, a midway, live entertainment and a wide variety
of Italian foods and dishes.
Last year's festival was nearly wiped out by Hurricane Fran, and organizers
say they'll need some big crowds to break even this time.
