Authorities break up what they call a major marijuana growing operation-
Tonight a Bedford County businessman is behind bars.
Just before six tonight, narcotics agents executed a search warrant at this
home on Claymont Drive in Forest.
In the basement they found 23-year old Anthony Gordon Ray tending to an
elaborate marijuana growing system.. complete with water tanks, lights and 87
healthy plants... each worth about one thousand dollars.

Ray has been charged with one count of manufacturing marijuana.
Authorities believe most of the pot was being sold in Blacksburg.
Ray is the owner of Biome (Bio-muh) Discount Pets, located directly across
the street from the house that was raided.
A transformer exploded in Nashville- disrupting downtown and severely
injuring three people.
The blast erupted
outside the NASCAR cafe that's under construction.
Two people passing by and one construction worker were hurt- two of them
are in critical condition.

A fire at a Myrtle beach motel-
It now appears a burning cigarette is the cause.
The fire broke out at the Calypso Motor Inn- injuring ten people.
Six guests were treated at the hospital and released.
One woman was seriously hurt- She's been tranferred to the Medical
University of South Carolina Burn unit.
Two firefighters and one police
officer were also injured.
Aid is now arriving to Hurricane ravaged Mexico.
The airport reopened and the relief supplies began coming in- food, clothing,
medicine and other much needed items.
Hurricane Pauline is the worst
storm to hit Mexico in almost a decade. While many vacationers were spared-
it is the nation's poor who were hardest hit.

Many of Acapulco's one million residents are still without drinking water,

A medical waste disposal company is facing a lawsuit and an investigation by
the Department of Environment Quality.
Former company officer, Clark Fuqua is suing Bio-conversions Technology.
Fuqua says the formula the hospital uses for waste treatment is NOT approved
by the state. So he says the wastes are being illegally dumped in an Amelia
He says these practices also put Bio-conversions workers and hospital
employees at risk.
The state Department of Environmental Quality has cited Bioconversions for
non-compliance, including failure to report waste spills and failure to do
The D-E-Q investigation continues--
BioConversions says Fuqua has failed in his attempts to purchase the company
and that his lawsuit is an attempt to stop an upcoming merger with another firm
Bio-conversions insists it is complying with D-E-Q regulations.
The General Assembly will now have to decide.
The concept of a Roanoke higher-ed center in an old Norfolk Southern

It wasn't a bird or a plane but it had everyone looking to the sky-

It's a Meteor and it's our video of the day.
The meteor was captured on videotape in El Paso, Texas.
All eyes looked to the sky to catch a glimpse.
Area residnets were startled by a loud boom and a bright flash in the sky
Windows rattled and homes shook as the meteor roared to the earth.
Officials at the McDonald Observatory say it's rare to see a meteor as
bright as this one in daylight hours.
The meteor apparently hit land about 27 miles from El Paso- leaving an acre
of scorched earth.
