A senior citizens outing turned tragic when a tour bus plunged down a
ravine.

43 of the 48 people aboard are dead.
The bus was carrying tourists in Quebec- when it apparently swerved off a
bridge and landed on its side.
Rescuers managed to reach five survivors inside the mangled wreckage.
They are all in critical condition.
Police say there were no skid marks on the road- suggesting faulty brakes may
be to blame.
The bus was carrying the seniors to a vacation island known for its fall
(fo-lee-ige) foliage.
The accident falls on a national holiday -Canadian Thanksgiving.

(That voice --- of singer-songwriter John Denver was silenced yesterday when
the experimental plane he was flying alone-- crashed off the shore of
California's Monterey Bay.
The sheriff's department says Denver was flying about 100-yards away from the
coastline when something appeared to go wrong.

Just this Saturday, Denver had his new plane painted in nearby Santa Maria.
These pictures were snapped by an employee of the paint shop. federal crash
experts are sifting through the wreckage of the experimental aircraft-- that
shattered upon hitting the water from 500-feet.

The evidence in the capital murder trial is as diverse as it is complex.
It promises to be the most bizarre and maybe the longest murder case ever
tried in Roanoke County.

Three years ago, Teresa Hodges was found strangled; the other three family
members shot in the head, and the house set on fire.
Bramblett became friendly with the hodges.
He practically LIVED at their home.
At one point Bramblett told police he was the last person to see Blaine,
Teresa and the girls alive.
More recently he said he was being framed by police.
It's all circumstantial evidence, but there's a lot of it.
The attorneys will begin to pick a jury in the afternoon.

Some Lynchburg parents tonight got their first look at a proposal to extend
the academic year in some elementary schools.

Brooks was being called the worst quarterback in UVa history.
But now two weeks, two wins, and no turnovers later - opinions are changing
rapidly.

Saturday as they beat Davidson during Homecoming.

And today their sophomore quarterback Christian Batcheller got a big award
from the ODAC.
The former Patrick County star from Stuart, has been named the conference's
offensive player of the week.
Batcheller completed 18 of 28 passes for 288 yards and four touchdowns in the
32-to-22 win on Homecoming.
He's averaging over 200 yards passing a game.
