from prison is living in the Botetourt County community of Cloverdale.

circulating about the suspect. Are parents over-reacting or just being
Jean...when 47-year old Richard Maulick moved to Cloverdale last month after
being released from state prison he had to sign the sex offender registry in

and paroled in September after serving 12 years.

Maulicks picture to warn children to stay away from the suspect.

A construction worker is in custody, charged with beating and robbing two
elderly Amherst County men Monday night.
25-year old Joseph Daniel Tyree was arrested early this morning after police
received tips he might be linked to the crime.
He's charged with two counts of malicious wounding, breaking and entering
and petty larceny.

78-year old Lucian Mantiply and his 95-year old brother Cyrus are in
satisfactory condition at Lynchburg General Hospital.
Tyree was appointed an attorney today, but remains held without bond.
They're still picking a jury in the capital murder trial of Earl Bramblett.
Only about half the necessary 32 potential jurors have been qualified, so
Bramblett is charged with eight felony counts in the arson and murder of a
family of four in Vinton.
Judge Roy Willet has denied camera access to the trial.
Two people caught with a van full of drugs in Rockbridge County were
sentenced today in Roanoke federal court.
Jerry Sexton and his wife Colleen were stopped by state police last April
outside a Lexington restaurant.

Police found several bags of cocaine, some meth-ampthetamine and guns in
Jerry Sexton got more than 16 years in prison; his wife was sentenced to
more than 10 years.
They also have charges pending against them in South Carolina. Police

inside her Giles County home may not be off the hook.
Charges against Cory Kast were dropped when the Giles County Commonwealth's
attorney failed to prosecute the case in a timely manner.

New medical news of importance to men.
An experimental test may accurately predict which prostate cancer patients
are at highest risk that the cancer will spread later on.
At the Mount Sinai School of Medicine, doctors are using the experimental
test to see if cancer has spread.
With a minimumally invasive procedure, they sample the lymph nodes near the
prostate, then, using D-N-A testing, check to see if the nodes contain cancer

Researchers aren't sure yet if the test can accurately predict in which
patients cancer will recur, but they hope it will give them a head start in
treating the disease before it spreads too far.

There may be a new test to help women assess their risk of the types of
breast and ovarian cancer associated with genetic defects.
The Journal of the American Medical Association is publishing the new
The risk assessment is based on a woman's family history, at what age a
relative was diagnosed with cancer, and ethnic background.

The hospital director says women will get both appointments and test results

The hospital must still raise more than a million dollars for the project,
but hopes to open the center by next June.
Local officials have also planted a tree at the hospital, saying that as it
grows -- so will research and the chances of curing breast cancer.
The hospital estimates about 83 women in Martinsville and Henry County will
be diagnosed with breast cancer this year.
There could be a powerful new antibacterial agent.
It's actually garlic.
Israeli researchers say they've discovered that garlic's strong "smell"
holds the secret to its strong antibacterial powers.
The smell that makes garlic so pungent -- apparently blocks certain enzymes
in amoebas-- enzymes that cause dysentery.
Since the middle ages, various cultures have used garlic in the treatment
of different diseases.
The egg is experiencing a renaisance.
For years, Americans had been turning their backs on eggs-- sales were
down, recipes were altered.
But nutritionists are now changing their tune.
The latest medical research has found that saturated fat is the problem.
It was the bacon and the butter that was clogging arteries-- not the egg.
