Jury selection continues in the capital murder trial of Earl Bramblett.
Yesterday in pre-trial motions the Commonwealth's Attorney advanced a piece of evidence that he says "only the killer would know."
(----------------)
VO-NAT

It was a statement attributed to Bramblett in a newspaper interview right after he was arrested in South Carolina last year.
Though he'd just been arraigned on eight charges involving the arson and murder of the Hodges family in Vinton, Bramblett told the reporter he wasn't convinced they were dead.
"I knew something happened to Teresa," he said, because a relative told him gasoline had been sprinkled around her body."
Commonwealth's Attorney Skip Burkart says HE didn't know that. He says it took the state crime lab to determine that there was gasoline on and around Teresa Hodges' body and ONLY hers.

Movie Review 10/17/97

The world premier status of the new musical "Only a Kingdom" allows a Roanoke audience the unique opportunity to see an original musical in its early stages.
David Staller plays King Edward the Eighth of Great Britain, a man so in love with American divorcee Wallis Simpson, played by Crista Moore, that he gives up his throne for her. Staller is charismatic in the role and has an excellent voice; Moore is sympathetic, convincing and has a lovely voice as well. The spark of attraction between the two is extremely convincing.
Society mavin Elsa Maxwell and a crew of gossipy followers both comment on the ups and downs of the couple and act as comic relief. Sally Struthers is hilarious in the role of Elsa Maxwell. She gets good support from the rest of the cast, particularly Adam Matalon as her long-suffering assistant, Nigel.
The show has some excellent musical numbers and an extraordinary cast, however, it has a tendency to ramble on. Some extraneous scenes could be cut and it could use a bit of polish. But "Only a Kingdom" is a fascinating piece of work. It will be fun to see how it changes over time and where it will go from here.
"Only a Kingdom" will continue on Mill Mountain Theater's mainstage through November 2. cutopen
