A Botetourt County controversy has earned a place in the campaign for

sex offenders move into the area.
In a speech to the Roanoke Regional Chamber of Commerce, Beyer referred to
the presence of a convicted child molester in Cloverdale.
Residents there have been circulating flyers and calling for a change in
Beyer says he supports the notification requirement, commonly known as
"Megan's Law," and says he will work to have it in place by early next year.

Today, he announced plans for a statewide swing with two of Virginia's

The Republican Party says it will file a petition tomorrow in Richmond
It asks a judge to force the Virginia Municipal League to turn over phone
records and correspondence under Virginia's Freedom of Information Act.
V-M-L has blasted Jim Gilmore's tax cut plan as a threat to localities --
and says it would cost twice Gilmore's estimate.
V-M-L says it's NOT a public entity, so the Freedom of Information law
doesn't apply to it.
The Republicans argue much of its budget must come from public coffers.
Two Roanoke high schools are scoring big on the football field.
But financial problems in their athletic departments may stifle some of the

Police say Harry Lilly was driving southbound on Mount Cross Road when he

Rescue workers had to pry open the car to reach Lilly, who was still

The Blacksburg police officer who fired at, but did NOT injure, a plain
clothes officer thought he was in danger.
That's according to police Chief Bill Brown who just completed his

Brown says the plain clothes officer had his weapon drawn and pointed in the

The drive to build a national D-DAY memorial in Bedford has received a
1-million donation from Cartoonist Charles Schulz.
The creator of the comic strip "Peanuts" will personally serve as head of
the fund-raising campaign.

studio in Santa Rosa, California.
Schulz admits he's not a fund-raiser or a public relations person- -but
he's long had an interest in the Allied liberation of France.

Schulz says he won't be there for the ground breaking at the site behind

Armstrong revealed he had cancer on October 8th of last year.
