elderly brothers Monday night.

Seventy-eight- year- old Lucian Mantiply and his 95- year- old brother Cyrus
were attacked in their Madison Heights home.
Acting on phone tips, police arrested 25- year- old Joseph Daniel Tyree, a
construction worker who lives less than a quarter mile from the Mantiply home.
Police say they found some of the stolen items in Tyree's house.

Virginia Tech President Paul Torgersen has written an open letter to the
university community denouncing a racially offensive E-mail message.
The E-mail was circulated by a fraternity student to other members of the
fraternity.
A black fraternity member who got the message complained to professors, and
eventually about 100 black students saw the posting.
Torgersen's letter asked for a commitment to a diverse campus community.
