Blaine Hodges had nearly exhausted his appeals on an embezzlement
That would have left his wife and daughters home alone while he was serving
time in prison.
Friends of the family were afraid of what might happen in Blaine's
absence... especially since Earl Bramblett spent so much time at the Hodges

(( Kathy Dales offered to move in with the Hodges while Blaine was away.
Most of all, she counseled her childhood friend, Teresa Hodges, to get the
extra keys back from Bramblett and have the locks changed.
Teresa's father also wanted to make sure she got the keys from Bramblett
and got him out of the house.

Though his son-in-law had his own legal problems, Fulcher believes Blaine
had the goods on Bramblett and was ready to testify against him.
Bramblett apparently thought so, too. He has said Blaine Hodges was
trying to set him up.
David Fulcher had promised to change the locks on the doors at his
daughter's house the day their bodies were found in the burning house.

Going up against the Internal Revenue Service can be a losing battle- but
that may soon change.
IRS reform is moving ahead.

The proposal would also give taxpayers more rights to sue-
and create an independent board with authority over the IRS.
The White House and
congressional democrats were initially against that proposal but late today
announced their support.
Fire raged through three downtown buildings in Indianapolis-
The three alarm blaze destroyed three abandoned buildings and sent flames
hundreds of feet in the sky.
About one hundred firefighters fought the blaze- a fourth of the city's fire
Embers flew onto occupied homes but no one was seriously hurt.
Virginia's black lawmakers say they're outraged by Lieutenant Governor
candidate John Hager's public record on race.
Hager was the president of the Country Club of Virginia in Richmond in 1990
-- the last year it had an all-white membership.
On a radio show in January of this year, Hager and a caller discussed
retiring the state song.
The caller says "How about if we replace it with 'Dixie'?"
Hager says "Sounds like a good solution."
Hager's spokesman says it was a flip remark in answer to the caller and
wasn't meant to be insensitive.
And on a possible Confederate flag license plate, Hager said it would be
okay if done "in a dignified and non-confontational manner."

A New York mother says Danville police had no reason to kill her son almost
two months ago.
Patricia Pryor says she wants justice.
Officer Dewey Hancock Junior shot her son David.
Police say David Pryor resisted arrest, sprayed Hancock with mace and
reached for the officer's gun.
Investigators say Hancock acted appropriately when he fatally shot Pryor.
But Pryor's family says there's no fingerprints or witnesses to back up

The fate of Mill Mountain is now in the hands of the committee members.
They meet this thursday to take a final vote.
A chemical plant in Chatham has the go-ahead to expand.
Sartomer built this 53-acre plant in 1994 on a cul-de-sac right next to
Chatham High School.
Tonight the Pittsylvania County supervisors gave Sartomer permission to
develop eight more acres, saying it will provide jobs.
George Haley voted against the expansion, demanding Sartomer build another
road out so people won't be trapped in an emergency.

The Anti-Defamation League is a Jewish Group.
It's working to monitor and expose hate groups- and it's calling on people

A condom maker is recalling 57 MILLION condoms.
Ansell Personal Products says customers are complaining the condoms break.
Apparently the condoms break before their expiration date.
The recall covers three brand names- Lifestyles, Prime, and Contempo.
Consumers may return recalled condoms to the place of purchase.
Electric Cars- you've heard of them before- but they never seem to catch on.
