In Wilder's statements last night, he wished both Beyer and Gilmore well.
The woman whose child took a joyride from Roanoke to Lynchburg will NOT
serve any jail time.
But Patricia Wright will have to enroll in a parenting class, and do some

Wright left her 11-year-old daughter, and the girl's 7-year-old cousin, in a
car outside a Roanoke County fitness club.
The older girl got tired of waiting, and drove off.
Wright thought the kids had been adbucted, and called police.

the delinquency of minors.
In court today, the judge ordered Wright to reimburse the police deparment
for the overtime involved in the search.
A convenience store clerk who was shot in the head during an August robbery
may suffer permanent hearing loss from his injury.
Matthew Longerbeam could NOT identify his attackers during a preliminary
But the teenager who drove Derek Smith and Rodney Holland to the Foster
Fuels store in Campbell County that night.. says both men went in with guns and
came running out a few seconds later.
Smith allegedly told the teen he was about to order Longerbeam to open the
register when the gun went off.
A grand jury could indict both men next month.
Preliminary reports reveal the blaze may have been set in the house fire that
killed a Roanoke man Friday--
Assistant Fire Marshal Jerry Percell says the fire started in the living room
of this house on 13th street.
An affidavit says burned holes on the living room floor may be an indication
that a chemical accelerant was used.
Authorities caution it could be accidental since there was fuel in the house.
36-year old David Griffin says he was asleep when the fire started-- he
48-year old James Cline's body was found in a bedroom.
Investigators are waiting for autopsy results.

Tina Tenret spoke to Patricia Pryor today and reports from our Danville
Officer Dewey Hancock shot and killed David Pryor almost two months ago in a
scuffle over the policeman's gun.
Yesterday, he was cleared in the investigation.
Today, Patricia Pryor says she wants justice.

Patricia Pryor says State Police notified her six days after her son was
killed--they still haven't returned his clothes.
David Pryor was arrested for shoplifting August 28th, but he fled the mall.
Pryor then allegedly sprayed Officer Dewey Hancock Junior in the face with
the officer's mace and reached for his gun.
Hancock then fatally shot Pryor.
One civil rights leader says this is another example of unjustified force by

A meningitis case to report today--
An Alleghany Highlands man has been diagnosed with meningococcemia-- also
known as spinal meningitis.
He's currently being treated at Alleghany Regional Hospital.
Intimate contacts and some hospital personnel who've had direct contact are
being treated with antibiotics, to protect them from the disease.
The illness causes infection of the central nervous system.
About 70 cases are reported each year in Virginia.
Scientists in New York say they're on the verge of taking in-vitro
fertilization to another level.... transforming a donor egg into one that's
genetically identical to the infertile mother.
Every year, thousands of older women whose own eggs aren't viable manage to
have children using eggs donated by a young woman.
But for some women-- there is a downside.

The researchers used micro-manipulation... to first remove the genetic

The new procedure is likely to be particularly attractive to older women--
whose eggs deteriorate with time.
