Republican Jim Gilmore comes out on top in our latest "NEWS 7 Mason-Dixon
poll" with 46-percent support among likely voters.
Democrat Don Beyer's 42-percent puts Gilmore's four point lead just outside
the margin of error-- making Gilmore the leader in this race.
Gilmore also came out on top today in a poll released by The Washington
Post.
In our poll, Gilmore has a 53-37 advantage with white voters.
Beyer has a 68-12 advantage with black voters... but NO Virginia Democrat
has won statewide office in modern times with less than 90-percent black
support.
Doug Wilder declined to endorse Beyer in the midst of this poll.
Among men, Gilmore again has a 53-37 advantage.
Among women, Beyer has a slimmer 47-39 advantage.

Bramblett and convince him to tell them what he knew about the Hodges murders.
Just two days after the bodies were found, Bramblett got STATE Police
approval to buy a handgun- using the Hodges' home as HIS address on the
firearms form.

He'd practically LIVED at the house on East Virginia Avenue in Vinton, but
it was uninhabitable on August 31, 1994... the day Bramblett took a taxi to
Vinton Pawn and bought a .22 caliber revolver.
State Police in Richmond approved the purchase within 45 minutes for lack
of criminal convictions.
The pawn shop owner testified today that he knew Bramblett and thought he
was a member of the Hodges family.

Two Roanoke men crashed close to a home in Bedford County after they say
their car was run off the road.

The accident happened about eight this evening along route 757.
The men say another driver ran them off the road and they flew over a 30
foot embankment and plowed into a shed next to a home.
The driver and the passenger suffered minor injuries and were taken to area
hospitals.
The accident is under investigation.

Two Norfolk Southern trains collided head on this afternoon injuring three
railroad workers.

The two trains slammed into each other- one of the engines caught fire.
State police say the workers saw the crash coming and jumped from the trains
before impact.
The workers are hurt but not seriously.

It was Fantasy Fest- an annual party and costume convention.
Almost four thousand people gathered as the event kicked off its Pet
Masquerade contest.
Ninety animals competed in various categories.
There was a pair of canine Blues Brother.
Doggy Parton was complete with a curly blonde wig and accessories.
A pot bellied pig became a slightly embarrassed beast of burden.
Some owners and pets even wore matching costumes.
