Gilmore also came out on top today in a poll released by The Washington Post.
In our poll, Gilmore has a 53-37 advantage with white voters.
Beyer has a 68-12 advantage with black voters... but NO Virginia Democrat has won statewide office in modern times with less than 90- percent black support.
Doug Wilder declined to endorse Beyer in the midst of this poll being conducted.
Among men, Gilmore again has a 53-37 advantage.

A faulty woodstove may have sparked a fire that gutted a home in southern Bedford County this morning.

Crews from three area fire departments were called to this home on Parrish Road in Goodview around 10.
The blaze had started in the rear of the structure and quickly spread to the rest of the house.
Firefighters drew water from a nearby pond and a swimming pool to battle the fire.
Authorities believe a woodstove in the back of the home may be to blame.
The house is a total loss.
The family renting the building was not at home when the fire broke out.

Two days after the murder of the Hodges family in Vinton, chief suspect Earl Bramblett bought a gun.
Though state police investigators from this area were having trouble getting a hold of Bramblett and getting him to tell them what he knew about the incident, state police in Richmond approved the purchase within 45 minutes.

...and Bramblett was on his way with a 100-dollar handgun from Vinton Pawn Shop.
State Police had approved the purchase, based on Bramblett's lack of criminal convictions.
The pawn shop owner testified today that Bramblett listed the Hodges' address:

Also today: a brother of one of the murder victims testified that Bramblett talked about serial killings in the weeks before the Hodges murders... but Randy Hodges said Bramblett did NOT want to talk about it much afterwards. Bramblett DID question how police could know Teresa Hodges had been strangled, given the fact that "some stuff" had been poured on her body, and it had been badly burned.
Hodges said Bramblett wouldn't discuss his whereabouts the day BEFORE the fire.
Bramblett had talked to an attorney and wasn't going to cooperate with police.

All three face charges of malicious wounding, and two face trespassing charges for jumping on the bus.

It's been a rough month for the animal shelter in Franklin County, but now it looks like there could be light at the end of the kennel.

A judge decided inmates should not be working at the shelter as part of a work release program, and that caused the cut back in hours of operation.
