poll, with 46-percent support among likely voters.
Democrat Don Beyer's 42% puts Gilmore's four point lead just outside the
margin of error-- finally making Gilmore the leader in this race.
Gilmore also came out on top today in a poll released by The Washington

Beyer has a 68-12 advantage with black voters... but NO Virginia Democrat
has won statewide office in modern times with less than 90- percent black

A faulty woodstove may have sparked a fire that gutted a home in southern
Bedford County this morning.
Crews from three area fire departments were called to this home on Parrish
Road in Goodview around 10.
The blaze had started in the rear of the structure and quickly spread to the
rest of the house.
Firefighters drew water from a nearby pond and a swimming pool to battle the
Authorities believe a woodstove in the back of the home may be to blame.
The house is a total loss.
The family renting the building was not at home when the fire broke out.
Police looking for evidence in the murder of Hollins College student Anne
Harper have seached her brother's house in Harrisonburg.
MATTHEW Harper is a student at James Madison University.

Now he's doing everything in his power to NOT repeat that performance.

Three boys face felony charges for allegedly beating up another youngster on
a Halifax County school bus.
Both sides give the same version of what happened on Bus 5 Monday.
The bus pulled up to let 14-year-old Chris Easley out. Instead, Easley
attacked 15-year-old Daniel Morris.
Easley's 13-year-old brother Larry and his 17-year-old cousin tried to jump
on the bus from the road. Other students tried to hold the door shut.

Larry Easley says he was sticking by his brother -- but admits he was wrong.
Larry is under house arrest. His brother and cousin, who may be tried as
adults, are in detention centers.
All three face charges of malicious wounding, and two face trespassing
charges for jumping on the bus.

It's been a rough month for the animal shelter in Franklin County, but now it
looks like there could be light at the end of the kennel.
Currently, residents can only adopt a pet or drop off animals during limited
hours or by appointment.
A judge decided inmates should not be working at the shelter as part of a
work release program, and that caused the cut back in hours of operation.
Now an on site shelter operator will be hired, and county officials are
working with the court and sheriff's office to get the work release program

Clifton Forge is trying to buy a piece of its history from a railroad

Keith-- the issue is a railroad platform
built near the turn of the century for what was then a bustling railroad
CSX planned to demolish the platform until city officials stepped in with a
last minute offer to buy it and refurbish the structure.
