Investigators who worked the Hodges fire and murders in 1994 tried just about everything to come up with evidence.
They suspected Earl Bramblett from the start, but they were a long way from proving he killed the Hodges family.
They had to get up early to find witnesses to the fire that started around four in the morning.
But they did.
Keith Humphry says they found Dorothy McGee on her way to work at Hardees.

(( She said it was about 4:30 or 4:35 AM. There wasn't a sole on Virginia Avenue at that hour of the morning.
All of a sudden she was hit with headlights coming from a vehicle pulling out from what she later learned was the Hodges' house.
Mike Stovall- -a Vinton Police investigator at the time- -had come up with the idea of putting up a road block in from the the house where the Hodges were killed. They stopped motorists at the same time of day the fire was reported on August 29th, 1994- -hoping to find someone who saw something.
Form the information police got from Dot McGee, they produced this videotaped re-enactment.
At first, she said, the vehicle "came on real slow" behind her.
Then the truck shot past her, speeding out of sight.
Her description of the vehicle matches Bramblett's old Ford pickup truck.

One of the conversations was tape recorded, and after the postal inspector hung up, Bramblett was heard muttering about Blaine Hodges. And he said, "He probably will not live through the night." 87 skydivers jumping from four planes and freefalling at about 120 miles per hour...
They're members of Virginia's "Skydive The Point" skydiving club.
They and a few friends from around the country spent two days trying to set a new state record.
In 1991, 63 skydivers held a formation for ten seconds or longer to set that record.
The first jump today was the lucky one.

As impressive as today's state record effort was -- it is NOT even near a world record.

((SANDY WAMBACH/SKYDIVE THE POINT: OH YEAH. THE WORLD RECORD OFFICIALLY IS TWO HUNDRED PEOPLE CONNECTED IN FREEFALL. UNOFFICIALLY, IT'S 297. ABOUT A YEAR AGO IN RUSSIA, THAT WAS DONE. SO WE CAN GO A LOT BIGGER THAN THIS. IT REQUIRES A LOT MORE PLANNING, A LOT MORE LOGISTICS, A LOT MORE AIRCRAFT, AND A LOT MORE PEOPLE.))

Virginia skydivers from this effort will be part of a 300-person record attempt in Chicago next year.
