examiner calls a rare event.
According to the Autopsy Cook was hit as his heart was recharging for
another beat, causing his heart to scramble its signals and stop.

his heart was electrically recharging itself for another beat.
The result, a scrambled signal that caused the heart to stop... a condition
called Commotio Cordis.
Medical examiner Dr. David Oxley says the only way to diagnose it is to rule
out everything else.

The bizarre death of a Virginia Tech sophomore this weekend is raising safety
concerns about campus dorms.
Virginia Tech police say 18-year old Melinda Marie Somers fell threw the
window of her 8th floor dorm room in Slusher Hall.
The tallest building on campus is 25 years old and houses all women.
Somers bed was pushed up against the open window and police say she rolled
over and fell 90 feet to the ground.
Officials are doing an engineering review to check the safety of the windows
Autopsy results are expected sometime later this week.
Police say they're waiting for Somer's Blood Alcohol level.
When Earl Bramblett was growing up in Texas, his family was so poor they
did not even have a clock. His sister says the kids had to guess when it was
time to go to school.
Her tearful testimony today was designed to spare him a death sentence in
the murder of the Hodges family.
Earl was the youngest of five children growing up in a two-room house in
His sister, Beverly, told the jury that their mother was an alcoholic, that
Earl was reduced to looking for his mother in bars.
Earl attended college on a sports scholarship but never graduated.
She said their parents were very strict, devoid of emotion.
The prosecution put on two women who said Bramblett molested them as
He came within hours of execution last April, and now convicted killer
Douglas Buchanan continues to fight for his life from prison.
