executed last April when a last- minute appeal took hold with the U.S. Supreme
Court.

psychological problems, the jury opted to give Buchanan the death penalty
anyway.

When Earl Bramblett was growing up in Texas, his family was so poor they
didn't even have a clock. His sister says the kids had to guess when it was
time to go to school.
Her tearful testimony today was designed to spare him a death sentence in
the murder of the Hodges family.

Earl was the youngest of five children growing up in a two- room house in
Texas.
His sister, Beverly, told the jury that their mother was an alcoholic, that
Earl was reduced to looking for his mother in bars.
Earl attended college on a sports scholarship but never graduated.

The prosecution put on two women who said Bramblett molested them as
teenagers.
Another woman testified Bramblett was so upset with her for talking with
police, he threatened to kill her.

Bramblett could also become a suspect in a murder in Spartanburg, South
Carolina.
Dana Satterfield was killed when Bramblett lived in Spartanburg County.
Virginia State Police began the process TODAY of exchanging forensic
evidence with South Carolina authorities to determine whether Bramblett can be
eliminated as a suspect in the Satterfield case.
