He was flying alone on the four-hour flight back to his home in Hannibal, Missouri.
After he did not arrive as scheduled, his family reported him missing yesterday.
The Virginia Civil Air Patrol aided in the search for the plane.
The focus was on the Sumners County area in West Virginia--that's where radar had tracked the plane.
But late today authorities reported the pilot had landed safely in Illinois.
