Gilmore is hoping for a Republican sweep in the statewide races for the
first time this century.

Don Beyer.
Mr. Clinton said Gilmore's plan to eliminate the car tax would jeopardize

missing plane.
Officials say the private aircraft took off Sunday from Roanoke, heading for
Missouri, but never made it.
The search for the plane and its pilot has been concentrated in Giles County

Voter's accross the Commonwealth head to the polls this morning for election
'97.
Voters will choose a new Governor, Lieutenant Governor, and Attorney
General.
There are a number of seats in the Virginia House of delegates up for
election, as well as more local positions.
In Roanoke and Martinsville voters will choose if they want to allow an off
track betting parlor in their area.
How Roanoke City Council members will be chosen in future elections will be
up to today's voters.
The polls will be open until seven this evening.

window of her eighth floor dorm room in Slusher Hall.

Somers bed was pushed up against the open window and police say she rolled
over and fell 90 feet to the ground where a newspaper carrier found her dead
the next morning.
