Movie Review
"I know what you did last Summer" is the latest "teens in danger of being
chopped into hamburger" flick. It has a few scary moments, but is ultimately
disappointing, squandering some good potential plot twists for the same old
cliches.
The movie centers around 2 teen couples. The first is a beauty queen played
by Sarah Michelle Geller and her obnoxious jock boyfriend played by Ryan
Phillippe. Couple number 2 consists of Jennifer Love Hewitt as a studious young
girl and Freddie Prinz Jr. as her boyfriend.
The fun begins when the four teens hit a pedestrian on a dark lonely stretch
of road. In fear of a manslaughter charge they sink the body into the harbour,
only the man isn't completely dead.
When the four start getting threatening letters they try and find out who is
stalking them, with predictable results.
The rest of the movie consists of a "man with a hook", referencing an old
urban legend, killing off various members of the cast.
There's a lot of running and screaming and the young actors do a good job of
both. Anne Heche has a small role as a strange and threatening country woman,
but not much is done with the character. "I Know what you did Last Summer"
gets a C, after a promising start it ends up being the same old stuff.
