Congressman Rick Boucher is urging state and federal officials to study A-E-P's request to build a high voltage power line in Southwest Virginia.
Boucher wants the State Corporation Commission and U-S Forest Service to determine if the NEED exists.
The Democrat is also asking the two agencies to research alternatives to building a 765- kilovolt line.
American Electric Power says a high voltage line is needed to meet the growing demand for electricity.
Boucher suggests a number of his own alternatives-- including the potential for A-E-P to purchase needed power from neighboring utilities.
