Business leaders in southwest Virginia are trying to get something like the
Skyline Drive built along the mountain ridges in their region.
But the proposed Coalfields Expressway would be more than a tourist drive.
It would move workers and products to and from the coal-mining region.
Such an expressway from Pound to Interstate 77 was approved in 19-95 by
Congress, but it isn't yet funded.
The cost could be anywhere from
357- million dollars to 880- million dollars, depending on the route chosen.
