An explosion almost leveled a Bedford County home tonight just outside of
One neighbor said the force was enough to rattle his windows and send a
mushroom cloud into the air.
Officials believe one person is missing.
Stacey Martin is standing by in the newsroom with more.

Officials believe a combination of propane and ammunition mayhave caused the

(( The explosion blew off the roof and gutted the remainder of the home.
It happened about 7:30 this evening just outside of Chamblissburg in Bedford
County along Saunders Road off route 616.

Firefighters arrived at the home about 20 minutes later and said they could
still hear ammunition exploding.
Neighbors say Danny and Maria Beckner lived at the home))
Jean, an official said Maria Beckner escaped the fire and was taken to a
nearby hospital with what's being described as "pretty bad" burns.
One man was believed to be in the home and is still missing.
Again, a firefight
er confirmed the house contained a lot of explosives and that combined with
propane is believed to have triggered the blaze.
But, of course police continue to investigate the incident.
One of three brothers charged with murdering a man inside a crowded
Blacksburg night spot is free.
During a preliminary hearing today charges were dismissed against Leon
However the judge later moved charges forward against Scale's twin brothers,
Terry and Kerry.
The twins are accused of shooting and killing Richard Bullard inside
Arnold's Restaurant, three months ago.

to testify today.
He says his friend, Bullard, was fatally shot after an verbal argument with
the three brothers.

In the meantime the Pentagon is sending more fighters, bombers and soldiers
to the Persian Gulf.
A ride to work ended with a trip to

the hospital for people aboard two subway trains in New York City.
The trains collided at a Queens station- sending 73 people to the hospital.
Several people were removed
from the station via a sidewalk grate, many of them strapped to backboards.

A California woman's been convicted of conspiring to murder her twin

Han's co-defendents- two teenager boys were also found guilty.
The intended victim, Sunny Han was tied up, but foiled the plot by phoning
(Jean Hahn) was allegedly trying to get back at her sister because Sunny

The three could get 25 years to life in prison.

The latest progress report on the (McCoy) McCaughey septuplets-
they are warm, pink and comfortable.

Dr. Shaw says immediate goals for the babies include learning to
breathe on their own- and maintaining their temperature.
Meanwhile the new Father says the septuplets are a gift from God- but he's

Bobbi McCoy will be in the hospital for another four to five days before she
can go home.
The McCoys will have a new home- along with free groceries, diapers, and a
new van- all gifts from the community- and businesses.
Doctors say the septuplets born to the (McCoy's) McCaugheys beat the odds
just by being born.
Premature births are the norm in multiple birth pregnancies.
In fact doctors say, in most cases, the more fetuses there are the earlier

And if the birth occurs before the 32nd week, the baby's brain might not be
fully developed putting him at risk of birth defects such as Cerebral Palsy and
Dr. Winkler says the McCaugheys (mih-KOYs) should know within a few weeks
whether the babies will experience any severe problems.
Ten deaths in the past three years have residents along Rt. 114 in
Montgomery County worried.
Tonight they took their concerns to the Virginia Department of
Transportation and state police.
Most in the crowd agreed that the road should be widened, but that step is a

The children call her Miss Terri.
But before she became an instructor at Greenvale Nursery School, Terri
Pannell was on welfare.
For six years, Greenvale has served as a site for the department of social
services' work experience program.
After volunteering there, Pannell eventually got a full- time position.
She thinks those who are receiving public assistance should see welfare
reform as a POSITIVE change.

Lovers of red wine had reason to celebrate today with their first
opportunity to taste this year's vintage.
This season's (BOW-jah-lay NEW-voh) beaujolais nouveau arrived today.
While most wines improve with age, the (BOW-jah-lay) beaujolais is best
when served fresh.
The wine goes on sale the third Thursday in November every year.
This year's vintage arrived at Roanoke's Lee & Edwards Wine Merchants in a
vintage car today.
Sales are reported brisk there. The store says it has already sold all 85
cases it received today.
