his profession as an excuse to womanize, leaving an unhappy wife and conflicted
children. The story is told from the perspective of young Eve Baptiste, a
touching portrayal by Jurnee Smollett and her teenage sister Cisley, played by
Meagan Good.
There is a lot of good cinematography; and the Louisiana bayou country is
used to great advantage. It is nice to see a wealthy, cultured black family on
screen; but the movie gets a B-. The acting is overly dramatic and the pace is
as slow as the waters that creep through the bayou.))
