A cross burning at a Floyd County church is just the latest incident there.

The county prosecutor says he doesn't think there's a connection between
the incidents at the Presbyterian Church and those at a BLACK church in the New
Town Road area, but police are still investigating.
Dan River High School students are in shock
one day after a car crash killed their 16-year old classmate.
State Police say Ruth Cardwell was not wearing a seatbelt when the car she
was riding-in veered off Route 726 and flipped over.

Cardwell's friend and fellow band member, Anton Reece, was driving the car.
The hospital will not release his condition.
Police are still investigating.
The Pentagon says it's not just Iraq- but more than two dozen other

Weapons inspectors continue their work in Iraq- but still no access to dozens
of presidential sites.
Secretary Cohen says there's no way of knowing whether the sites hold marble
statues of Saddam Hussein or chemical weapons.
A World War Two veteran used a flashback as his defense in a murder trial.

But the jury didn't buy it-
Jurors found Richard Keech guilty of first degree murder in the shooting
death of his son-in-law
Keech shot 47 year old Nicholas Candy last year, then chased him down and
shot him four more times.
Keech says he had flashed back to his POW days and thought he was shooting
at a Japanese prison guard.
Prosecutors said the 77 year old made up the story and intentionally shot
Keech faces 35 years to life in prison.
Two planes collided in mid-air near San Diego.

One plane ended up on a highway under construction-
The student pilot was taken to the hopstial- His female instructor walked
away from the incident.
The pilot of the second plane did NOT survive.
That plane smashed into a home in a residential neighborhood.
Both planes were on approach to the airport when they crashed.
Roanoke City is sending out a stream of pamphlets, warning residents about
the dangers of flooding.

The horses of Roanoke's mounted police patrol are getting a new home.
They're moving to an undeveloped part of the city's industrial park.
The land near Old Monterey Golf Course was next in line for expansion.
But the city decided preserving the area's heritage was more important than
bringing in a new factory.

The city hopes to one day add a child-care facility and a renovated cabin
where Roanokers can brush up on their history.
A penny drive at Blacksburg High school exceeded everyone's expectations.
This morning-- the school handed over an 18-hundred dollar check to the
Montgomery County Christmas Store.
That's 180-thousand pennies.
The students also put together more than 200 baskets filled with food for a
complete Thanksgiving dinner for local families.
It's an annual tradition for the student council.

Its called America's Holiday tree-- and it will log three thousand miles
before reaching its destination.
The 60-foot tree, will adorn the west lawn of the U-S Capitol.
Its a gift from the people of South Dakota.
This afternoon-- the man responsible for safely transporting the tree made a
pit-stop in Southwest Virginia to visit with family.
This is the third time David Duvall has had the honor of hauling the tree.
