It's a feeling echoed tonight by the county planning commission.

It's the Kyoto, Japan, summit on global warming.
Representatives from more than 150-countries are working on a treaty to

Virginia Tech quarterback Al Clark had successful surgery
to repair a slight cartilage tear in his left knee yesterday.
Clark threw two TD passes in the Hokies' loss Saturday despite the tear.
He should be able to work out again in two weeks, and likely will play in
Tech's bowl game.
The Virginia Tech men's basketball team improved to 3-and-0 last night by
whipping Liberty 80-to-47 at the Cassell.

The Radford Highlanders early season problems took a turn for the better as
the team improved to 2-and-2 on the season with a 72-to-63 overtime win over a
good Ohio University squad.

The Bowl officially extended Pittsburgh the invitation late yesterday to play
in the New Year's Eve bash in Memphis.
It will be the Panthers first bowl appearance since 1989.

best college football player in the Commonwealth by the Downtown Club of
Richmond, have been announced.

Those of you Redskins' fans who have been clamoring for the team to replace
Gus Frerotte with Jeff Hostetler are finally getting your wish but not for the
reason you think.
Frerotte is out for the year after fracturing his hip in Sunday's game
against the Rams. He managed to finish the game, but now veteran Jeff
Hostetler will have to finish the season starting with this Sunday's game at
Also, The Redskins announced yesterday that running back Terry Allen could
miss the final three regular season games with a sprained ankle.
The only good thing to come out of Redskins Park yesterday was word that the
team had finally cut Alvin Harper, who has all of two catches this season.
Still to come tonight in sports, as if playing the Hampton Crabbers in the
state championship game wasn't tough enough, there is now a possibility
Fleming may have the play the Crabbers on their home turf at Todd Stadium in
Hampton, instead of at Norfolk State.

William Fleming is supposed to play Hampton for the Division Five state
title as part of a doubleheader at the new 30 thousand seat stadium on the
Norfolk State University campus this Saturday.
But this afternoon News 7 discovered that the venue for this game may be
moved, and that one of the sites being considered as a replacement is Hampton's
home field at Todd Stadium.
Last night the Tidewater area was hit with close to an inch and a half of
rain and today the Virginia High School League's executive director Ken Tilley
was in Norfolk inspecting the field.
No decision on a possible change will come until tomorrow.
But Fleming coach George Miller thinks any thought of moving the game at this
date is absurd!

For starters they have a two year contract to play the game at Norfolk State,

While it may not look like it, this Christmas tree is almost 14-hundred feet
in the air.
Of course most of that height is it's stand... which just happens to be the
110th floor of the World Trade Center.
While that claim seems a little deceptive, it was still a big hit with
tourists who took turns posing in front of the tree.
