One high school student is dead and seven others are wounded after another student opened fire.
About 35 students were taking part in a prayer circle when gunfire erupted.
It happened just before classes were to begin at Heath High School in West Paducah.
Some of the wounded students are reported to be in very critical condition.
Authorities say a 14-year-old freshman was taken into custody immediately after the shooting.

Some of the victims of a Danville apartment fire are seeking the help of the judicial system.
The Thanksgiving night blaze at Cabin Lake Apartments left 250 people homeless.

They were trying to get their deposits back and some pro-rated rent.

No one was hurt, but shoppers were evacuated from the Macy's Department store.
Police later arrested a 36- year- old Los Angeles man in connection with the attack.

Annan and Iraq say the 2-billion dollars in oil Iraq is currently allowed to sell is NOT enough to meet the basic needs of the Iraqi people.

Virginia military bases may be included on the list of upcoming base closings.
An independent panel of military experts is recommending the Defense Department go ahead with it's plans to close more bases.
Defense Secretary William Cohen has proposed two more rounds of base closings to help make the military more efficient.
Congress is objecting to the plan.
Hampton Roads in eastern Virginia could be hit hard because the navy provides thousands of jobs to the area.

A Virginia Education Association survey quizzed some 500 teachers across the Commonwealth and compared the results with a national survey.
The survey found each week teachers in the Commonwealth spend ten hours of their personal time on instruction-related activities.
Nationwide, teachers spend nine- point- four hours of their personal time with students.
