Testimony continues today in a Christiansburg murder case.
The prosecution says 52- year- old man killed the elderly woman he worked
for.
The defense maintains James Reid was too drunk to remember what happened that
night.
The murder happened in Annie Lester's home in Christiansburg last October.
In court yesterday jurors learned that Reid went to visit Lester that night,
and witnesses say he had been drinking.
(----------------)
VO-NAT
SUPER=03-Christiansburg;
Prosecutors say Reid beat and repeatedly stabbed the elderly woman he'd
worked for as a handyman.
Yesterday Reid entered an Alford plea in court in hopes of avoiding the
death penalty.
The plea acknowledges the state's evidence-- without admitting guilt.
The defense maintains Reid does NOT remember what happened that day because
of the alcohol.
His attorneys point to the fact Reid did not try to conceal his blood
covered clothes after the crime as an indication of his state of mind.
