Before deciding the fate of a Christiansburg man convicted of capital
murder... defense attorneys want the judge to consider their client's medical
history.

The defense says a judge should not put 52- year- old James Reid to death
for beating and stabbing 90- year- old Annie Lester.
Reid had been drinking the day of the murder-- last October.
Medical experts who testified yesterday say Reid is a violent alcoholic who
does NOT think rationally.
They told the court Reid's brain has deteriorated over the years from binge
drinking as well as a host of medical problems-- including seizures.
Whatever the case-- the victim's family wants the death penalty.
