"It is patently irresponsible and ignorant to lump together a terrible crime, the NRA, and a legal hunt in the same breath.
While no one can deny that a terrible crime has occurred in Paducah, Kentucky, it is simplistic to blame the gun. No gun ever killed anyone unless directed by an act of criminality, madness or stupidity, except when ruled acts of self-defense. A gun is a tool, and no more responsible than a hammer is responsible when you smack your thumb.
The NRA promotes responsible gun ownership by law-abiding citizens. Millions of children have been taught gun safety by the NRA's "Eddie Eagle" program. Thousands of Virginians have received firearms training through the NRA in hunter safety courses, and in order to obtain concealed carry permits...(The writer) is certainly entitled to her opinions against hunting, but no more than those of us who hunt are entitled by law to do so. I can't remember ever hearing of a child who is taught responsible use of a firearm to target shoot or hunt using a deer rifle in a driveby shooting, or to settle a drug debt. On the contrary, learning gun safety instills personal responsibility and negates the entertainment industry's morbid fascination and sensationalization of gun violence.
