Police say it appears a domestic dispute turned deadly in Carroll County.
Authorities were called to Little Bear Road in the Cana section of the
county yesterday.
The first officer on the scene found 51- year- old Frederick Ray Edwards and
35- year- old Mary Ruth Hiatt both dead.
Police say the evidence indicates Edwards shot Hiatt and then turned the gun
on himself.
Authorities are awaiting autopsy results.

The new standards of learning are replacing the Literacy Passport in
Virginia schools.
For eight years, Virginia students were tested on their reading, math and
comprehension skills before going to high school.
Students had to pass all three components to get a high school diploma.
The state Board of Education decided yesterday that the test is no longer
needed because of the state's rigorous new Standards of Learning.
Testing on the new standards will start next year.

Movie Review -- Anastasia
Fox outfoxes Disney with its charming musical fantasy, "Anastasia." The only
problem is that this story of the Russian Romanov has no historic basis.
The animation is grand and the voices will cast.
Meg Ryan is a spunky Anya, an orphan who may be the only remaining member of
the Russian aristocracy. Two con men plan to pass her off as Anastasia in order
to receive the reward offered by Anastasia's grandmother. John Cusack is the
voice of the attractive Dimitri and Kelsy Grammer brings life to Dimitri's
partner is crime, Vladimir.
Here Raputin is a villain returned from the underworld to complete his curse
against the Romanov's by getting rid of Anastasia once an for all. There is a
cute dog, villainous bat and lots of pleasant songs. "Anastasia" gets a B. It's
not a bad choice for the holidays, but it's simply a fairy tale, not historical
fact.
MOVIEVIEW-FLUBBER
"Flubber," Disney Studios update of the "Absent Minded Professor" will
have problems finding an audience.
The Flubber character will strike older kids and adults as silly.
Younger kids will quickly lose interest in the romantic triangle and the
slow moving plot.
Robin Williams could ben an endearing professor, but the script has him
acting in a ridiculous and often illogical manner.
The best character is an amorous flying computer with a crush on the
professor.
"Flubber" gets a C.
Not much of the movie makes sense, even for kid-movie comedy standards.

combine certain services like 9-1-1 with the county to save money, but so far
the town has not committed to that.
