American Electric Power has announced it has plans to merge with a Dallas-based company.

Currently, A-E-P is the third biggest utility in the country.
It supplies power to nine states.
After the merger with Central and South West, a company based in Dallas, A-E-P will pick up four more states.
The combined company plans to cut 13-hundred jobs.
But A-E-P says those cuts will come at the corporate level.
And it says electricity rates in Southwest Virginia will stay among the country's lowest.
