Shattered glass and shell casings littered the street after a shooting in
Northwest Roanoke tonight.
It happened about eight-thirty this evening near the intersection of 10th
street and Orange Avenue.

A tractor-trailer caught fire while idling in a driveway in Salem today.
The truck was apparently left running for 30-to-45 minutes when the driver
says he heard a tremendous noise.
The vehicle was in flames when firefighters arrived.
The problem was caused by the truck's electrical system.

Work continues to try and save an Italian landmark.
The Leaning Tower of Pisa may be leaning towards destruction.
We'll tell you about plans to save the legendary fixture when the news
Technicians trying to save Italy's Leaning Tower of Pisa have decided not
to take any chances.
They've already sunk more than 80 thousand tons of lead at the bottom of the
tower's outside angle.
But to make sure the tower doesn't lean any further, they will install two
iron cables to keep it in place, and even pull it back a half a degree.
The ropes will be installed next summer.

A big three game weekend for the Roanoke Express. Roanoke picked up 5 out
of a possible 6 points by beating the Hampton Road Admirals last night at the
Roundhouse 3 to 1.

After a three point lead in the first quarter, Tampa Bay's Trent Dilfer puts

Meantime, Detroit quarterback Scott Mitchell suffered a concussion yesterday
while running for a first down against the Buccaneers.
Mitchell tried to get up but slumped to the ground for about 20 minutes
while medical personnel strapped him to the stretcher.
The Lions say he was conscious but groggy in the locker room. He was taken
to a local hospital.
The finals of the NationsBank Holiday Hoops tournament tonight will be a
Roanoke Valley Affair.
William Fleming and Cave Spring will hook up the championship game at 7

A single shot on a pool table broke a record today by sinking 149 balls.
Florida pool ace Gene Catron started the chain reaction of balls and
dominoes... clearing one table, then rolling along pool cues to five others.
He used a different pattern on each table, but each time, the dominoes fell,
sending the balls into the pockets in synchronized order.
Near the end, only one of the 150 balls failed to make it to the pocket...
but 149 was still enough to shatter the old record of 133.
