They knew the snow meant cancelled flights.
So they put on their best faces and got ready for a long night in Roanoke.

Early this morning city crews and the Virginia department of Transportation
were preparing for the worst.
By noon the snow was falling fast, and crews knew that meant they'd earn
their money today.

Wet snow and slush made a slippery mixture on the roads.
This accident happened on Interstate-81 between Roanoke and Salem.
V-DOT says it's doing its best to clear interstates and primary roads.

A man from South Boston apparently killed himself after firing at police.
We'll have that story next,

South Boston police say a man charged with carrying a concealed weapon
during an early morning traffic stop, went home and started shooting.
Police were called to Tanglewylde (tangle-wild) Apartments, where gunfire
was coming from 31-year old Malcolm Sherwood Young's residence.
Chief Jim Hall says Young told officials over the phone he would shoot any
officer that came near him.
Police tried to wait him out, but finally had to enter the building when
Young's apartment started burning.

When police and firefighters went in, they found Young dead from an apparent
self inflicted gunshot wound.

18- year- old Richard Howard Busby was wanted on a malicious wounding charge
in the city of Bedford.

They praise the group Medical Care for Children, Virginia Baptist and Carilion

Gilmore's second round of appointees is less diverse than his first.

The N-B-A has issued fines and suspensions after a fight during the
Philadelphia and Sacramento game last night.
Philly's Derrick Coleman and the Kings Corliss Williamson slugged it out in
front of the scorers table after elbows and forearms were thrown under the

The University of Virginia is losing soccer star Ben Olsen.
The junior midfielder has decided to give up his final year of eligibility
and turn pro signing a contract with Major League Soccer through Project 40.
