plane landing, taxiing to terminal
Flight 826 returned to Tokyo airport about five hours after it had departed
--with a plane-load of people bound for New Year's holidaying in Hawaii.
Ambulances and fire trucks surrounded the jumbo jet as it taxied in.
Eleven hundred miles east of Tokyo -- without warning -- the plane hit severe
turbulence -- and plunged nearly a thousand feet, just as flight attendants
were serving meals.
On landing, emergency crews tried to resuscitate one Japanese passenger with
severe head injuries but failed. She was pronounced dead when she was taken
to a nearby hospital. The 32-year-old woman was only fatality -- but one
hundred ten other passengers were injured. Many were taken to hospitals near
the airport -- to be treated for broken limbs, wrenched necks and many with
bloody facial cuts.

unfastened were hurled around the cabin, along with food carts and baggage.
They said people were screaming with fear -- until the flight crew announced
