for a second in command.

Lieutenant John McCane has tendered his resignation and will step down in
two weeks, according to sources in the department.
McCane currently is the subject of a state police investigation into the
possible embezzlement of sheriff's department funds.
He also has been charged with stalking a friend of his estranged wife.

Mark Vitner says business in the Southeast should outperform the rest of the
nation.
He's predicting three-point-four percent growth in Virginia, and says the
state will add nearly 80-thousand new jobs.
Vitner says cutbacks in defense and government are a thing of the past in
the Old Dominion.
But he says most of the growth will be in northern Virginia, Richmond, and
Hampton Roads.

That means zookeepers need to be extra careful because big piles of snow give
some animals escape routes.

Two boys struck not gold, but a piece of history with a metal detector in
Winchester.
Micheal and Andrew Zimmerman discovered a mortar shell from the Civil War
near a soccer field.
They called police who decided to detonate it.
The blast left a large crater.
Civil War historian Allan Tischler said the shell was probably left over from
the Battle of First Kernstown.
Police are searching to see if there are more mortar shells in the area.
